Yeah, the picture gives it away! It's a Ford Fiesta ST :D !
Today I talked to my mom about possible cars for me, and about my school performance as of late.
Over the past 2 years, I have kept up a GPA above a 3.8, whilst taking tennis inside and outside of school, and also taking 3 honors and 1 AP class at the same time!
I brought these things up with my mom, who said she wants me to have a new car as my first car for reasons of comfort and safety. I agree with this, but I said I'd like my car to have some pep in it's step! moments after saying that, an "ASBO yellow" Ford focus ST drove by, and my mom commented on it's looks, and how cool it looks. I took a chance and brought up the cheaper, slower, more fuel efficient fiesta ST, and she said yes to it! She is also the one who recommended the green paint on it!
Now, I just need to wait till July to actually go and drive it, but that's it, I finally have it narrowed down to one car!

Lucky! Nice color choice btw.
I did the same thing (but with swimming instead of tennis) and all I got to buy myself was this hunk of malaise metal.

You will be winning if you get a FiST as a first car. Don't tell your mom about how easy it is to turn up the wick on an ecoboost and get more power out of it.

I'm glad my grades and...ahem...extracurricular activities didn't factor into me getting my first car. Fortunately my parents bought me an 88 Bronco. We sold it for a 94 Altima a year or two later, and my dad consigned on my Focus and I made the payment. I traded that by myself on my Dart which is all me and I'm very proud of that.

I did the same thing except with XC and bought $400 worth of Swedish steel instead.

So jelly. I LOVE the Fiesta ST. There's no way I could afford the $350/month for a new car though.

Cool! if I had any mechanical know how, and some space, I would've probably done the same, but maybe gotten a '57-'58 ford instead, but alas, I am still mechanically inept :P
I also almost did swim team this year, but that would've killed my GPA if I did :D

eh, she knows how easy it is to make a stock GTi (which she thinks is seriously fast) in to a monster, so she'll find out eventually, but for now, she's not in the know!

Buy or lease? Going to be devil's advocate, and I don't mean to dampen your excitement, but a new Fiesta ST is going to be a lot less "comfortable" or "safe" than any used full-size sports sedan in the last 10 years. That's not to say you shouldn't get the car, if you love it and are willing to shell out $20k for it, do it, but stick with your choice and don't be oogling the guy who bought a 2005 Jaguar XJR or 2006 BMW 535i for $15,000.
That's not to say I'm a little jealous! When I was in high school I attended full-time college at the same time as well as a 30-hour workweek, had straight As, and wrote a few books. My reward? I bought myself a new paint job on my then-11 year old Mustang V6. This is my "Damn kids have it so good nowadays" speech. I bought my first car (1990 Nissan Maxima) for $200. It would go to 100mph on a good day, but had some serious problems. It makes me very glad I didn't get a $5000+ car as a first car, as I never would have gotten the chance to beat on it and resell it for the same I paid for.

It's a buy. My parents hate leasing, so I actually get to own the car. and I know it will, but don't tell my mom that ;)

So now is the time when you should be planning for your
second
car, which you will buy yourself. Also be prepared to lose your ass on depreciation when you resell it. You
might
get lucky and have it retain its value decently, but expect to pay about $7000 in depreciation if you hold on to it.
But if you plan it right, it will probably jump up in value being the first model year and a somewhat rare trim, so in a year or two you might be able to sell it high, like what 2013 Focus STs are going for right now.

well you see, I plan on keeping my first car as long as possible. this means that it'll last at least 15 years with me. of course, i'll buy a second car at some point, but I'm going to keep the first car around unless my economic situation decides otherwise for me

Then expect to lose $15000 on depreciation! It costs a lot more per year to hold onto new cars than it does to turn over used cars, hands down, but it does cost less to hold onto new cars than it does to constantly buy new cars. But I seriously worry if the Fiesta ST will make it 15 years, the Ecoboost engines are not yet tested over 150,000-200,000 miles in real world conditions, and repair costs can be extreme with the somewhat unique (for a Ford sedan) chassis. It's a sweet engine in a well-sorted car (and this drive review might help you with that) so I hope it proves reliable if you keep your wits about you.
But seriously. Grab your economic situation by the head and tell it to do what you want for you so you can buy any car you want in 5 years. With the internet, there's no limit to how much economic knowledge you can absorb and apply to real life for no cost at all.

Congratulations man! Just got my first car 5 months ago, here is a suggestion, go easy on the hooning for a few weeks, I put my 98 stang in a ditch (after full oppo on a dirt road) 5 days after buying it and right after the biggest purchase of my life I couldn't afford a new tire. Nothing sucks more than just getting a car and not being able to dive it.
